President Rahmon Calls for Transition to Green Economy at BRICS Summit
President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan emphasized the importance of taking practical steps towards a real transition to a “green” economy during the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan. He highlighted the significance of green energy in this transition and expressed concerns about the impact of climate change on the region.
Rahmon stated that the reduction in glacier areas in Central Asia, a key source of water resources, is a direct result of global warming. He also announced Tajikistan’s plan to host a high-level international conference on glacier conservation in Dushanbe next May, inviting participation from other countries.
Furthermore, President Rahmon addressed the increasing challenges posed by international terrorism, extremism, cybercrime, and organized crime, stressing the need for a unified strategy to combat these threats. He affirmed Tajikistan’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with international partners in tackling these issues.
