Recent floods in the Abyei Special Administrative Area (ASAA) have displaced citizens, including 110 individuals with special needs. The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) stepped in to provide non-food items to those affected, such as gumboots, plastic sheets, and blankets. Abyei Minister of General Education Nyinkuany Aguer expressed gratitude for UNISFA’s support for the most vulnerable.
Abyei Information Minister Bulis Koch also acknowledged the relief efforts, emphasizing the importance of non-food materials for constructing shelters and staying warm. The local government and partners plan to distribute both food and non-food items to additional flood-affected individuals. Security concerns have been noted, with some disturbances caused by elements of the SSPDF along the borders.
Despite challenges, efforts to provide aid and maintain peace in Abyei continue. The upcoming mass distribution aims to assist all those affected by the floods and help displaced individuals return to their homes as water levels recede.
