New Democracy, a political party in Greece, plans to challenge a 40,000 euro fine imposed by the Personal Data Protection Authority (PDPA) related to the “email-gate” scandal. The party intends to appeal to Greece’s highest administrative court, the Council of State, stating that the fine was not directly linked to the scandal but rather due to insufficient compliance with data protection laws.
Despite disagreeing with the authority’s findings, New Democracy has already implemented suggested improvements in data management. The party denies any involvement in the email data breach and claims the leak was independent of party directives. The PDPA also fined a former party secretary for using and leaking voter data.
The PDPA imposed fines on other parties involved in the scandal, and the case is under criminal investigation. New Democracy remains determined to contest the decision and uphold its stance on data protection compliance.
