The Poultry Association of Nigeria and stakeholders are concerned about the rising cost of eggs and are calling for government intervention. The Chairman of the association, Mr Mojeed Iyiola, attributes the price hike to expensive raw materials for bird feed, despite government support in maize importation. The lowest price for a crate of eggs is N5,000, posing challenges for both sellers and consumers.
Egg sellers like Mrs Taiwo Bashiru and Ms Bummi Olayinka note the unprecedented price hikes due to factors like feed costs, transportation expenses, and inflation. Consumers like Mrs Ajoke Folorunsho and Mrs Ifeoma Okoli express worry over the affordability of protein sources, including eggs, in their diets.
Another stakeholder, Mrs Adegbite Samiat, emphasizes the need for government support in stabilizing poultry prices and ensuring disease control in the sector. The situation calls for urgent action to address the challenges faced by both producers and consumers in the poultry industry.
