The recent nationwide power outage in Cuba has left millions without electricity, prompting President Miguel Diaz-Canel to assure the public that efforts are underway to restore stability to the electrical grid.
Following the worst blackout in two years, the entire country was plunged into darkness after primary power plants failed, causing a collapse in the power grid.
Despite facing challenges, including a second collapse and technical complexities in the restoration process, authorities are working to reconnect power plants and make progress towards resolving the crisis.
The energy minister provided updates on the increasing generation of power and the restoration of energy supply to certain areas. However, Cuba’s longstanding struggles with blackouts, fuel shortages, and economic instability have been exacerbated by external factors such as Hurricane Milton and U.S. sanctions.
Critics have also pointed to mismanagement within the Cuban government as contributing to the ongoing energy crisis.
Despite the challenges, President Diaz-Canel expressed confidence that Cuba will overcome this difficult situation with the support of community leaders and ongoing recovery efforts.
