The Federal Government is set to arraign 76 #Endbadgovernance protesters before Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja on November 1. The protesters, including 32 minors, were arrested in different parts of Nigeria during protests held between August 1 and 10, 2024, to express grievances about economic hardship. The protests were met with tear gas, arrests, and shootings by security officials.
The protesters are facing a 10-count charge, including intent to destabilize Nigeria, treasonable felony, and inciting to mutiny. The charges allege acts of vandalizing public buildings and calling for the military to overthrow the government.
Prior arrests of #EndBadGovernance protesters led to a bail hearing, with five of them unable to meet the initial conditions. Justice Emeka Nwite granted a reduction in bail amount to N5 million each for those involved in the previous case.
