Russia and Ukraine have completed a poignant exchange, swapping the bodies of 590 fallen soldiers in a heartfelt gesture of respect and closure amidst the ongoing conflict.
Moscow received the remains of 89 soldiers, with reports citing Russian lawmaker Shamsayil Saraliyev confirming the exchange as part of Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine.
The bodies were recovered in Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kursk regions, reflecting the toll taken by the conflict on both sides.
While Russia’s Defense Ministry has remained silent on the matter, Ukraine repatriated 501 bodies, including those from the fierce battle in Avdiivka and other areas claimed during the conflict.
As the two countries continue to navigate the complexities of war and loss, Ukraine remains resolute in its mission to find and identify the thousands of missing soldiers still unaccounted for.
