Despite urgent pleas from media freedom organizations, Israel has yet to allow critically wounded journalists Fadi al-Wahidi and Ali al-Attar to leave Gaza for life-saving medical treatment.
Al-Wahidi, a cameraman for Al Jazeera, remains in a coma after being shot by an Israeli sniper during coverage of the ground invasion of Jabalia refugee camp. Al-Attar was also shot while reporting on displaced Palestinians in Deir el-Balah.
Multiple requests for evacuation of the journalists have been ignored by Israeli authorities, leaving their lives at imminent risk.
No Evacuation
The Committee to Protect Journalists has demanded safe passage for the journalists, accusing Israel of causing a prolonged delay that endangers their lives. International efforts for their evacuation have been stalled due to lack of Israeli authorization.
More than 175 media workers have been killed in Israel’s war on Gaza, prompting calls for accountability and protection for journalists in conflict zones.
