Opposition Grows Against Proposed Constitutional Court at Pakistan Lawyers Convention
At the All Pakistan Lawyers Convention in Karachi, legal professionals united in opposition against the ruling coalition’s proposed constitutional amendments. The event saw disruptions as political factions clashed, hindering speeches by prominent figures like Rabbiya Bajwa and Ali Ahmed Kurd.
The resolution passed at the convention vehemently opposed the establishment of the Federal Constitutional Court, warning of dire consequences if the controversial bill is passed. Lawyers voiced concerns over the potential erosion of the trichotomy of powers and criticized the role of the establishment in drafting the bill.
Senior lawyer Ali Ahmed Kurd’s speech was cut short amidst tensions, reflecting the intensity of opposition towards the amendment. PTI-aligned lawyer Hamid Khan emphasized the preservation of the Supreme Court as the sole constitutional court, signaling a unified stance against the proposed reforms.
The legal community stands united in resistance, calling for transparency and input in the drafting process before any amendments are considered. With echoes of past movements for judicial restoration, lawyers prepare to defend the sanctity of the judiciary in the face of impending reforms.
