Gombe State Government Signs MoU with NLC on Minimum Wage
The Gombe State Government has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) regarding the implementation of the minimum wage.
Chairman of NLC, Yusuf Aish-Bello, described the occasion as historic, highlighting the complexities of the salary structure and the need to focus on basics for civil servants, especially in retirement. The agreed minimum wage amount is set at N71,451.15, with level one having a basic salary of N42,000.
Aish-Bello mentioned that allowances will be reviewed in the next six months and emphasized the government’s commitment to implementing pending agreements within the specified timeframe.
Despite the government’s decision to deny workers arrears, Aish-Bello noted that Gombe State had implemented a N10,000 monthly palliative since September last year.
Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Jatau, expressed satisfaction with the signing of the MoU, indicating that steps are being taken to ensure the prompt implementation of the minimum wage for all workers.
