Forty countries have come together to condemn the recent attacks on United Nations peacekeepers in Lebanon. The joint statement, released on Poland’s UN mission social platform X, calls for an immediate end to the violence against peacekeepers.
The signatories reaffirm their support for the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and its efforts to maintain peace in the region, in line with relevant UN Security Council resolutions. They stress the crucial role UNIFIL plays, especially given the current tensions in the area.
Recent incidents, including Israeli forces firing at UN headquarters and injuring peacekeepers, have raised concerns. Despite these attacks, UNIFIL has declared its commitment to staying in the border area.
The United States Secretary of Defense expressed deep concern over the reports of Israeli troops firing at UN peacekeeping positions. The international community remains united in condemning these acts of violence and reaffirming their support for peacekeeping efforts in Lebanon.
