UN Report Accuses Israel of War Crimes in Gaza Healthcare System
A recent United Nations inquiry revealed that Israel engaged in a systematic effort to destroy Gaza’s healthcare system during the Gaza war, constituting both war crimes and crimes against humanity. This deliberate attack on medical facilities and personnel, including the killing and torture of medical staff, has had devastating effects on the civilian population, especially children.
The report, to be presented to the UN General Assembly, also highlighted the prevention of medical evacuations and the tragic deaths of medical personnel seeking to rescue injured individuals from under Israeli fire. The World Health Organization condemned the restrictions on patient permits and the high number of medics killed in Gaza in the past year, labeling it an irreparable loss to the health system.
Despite Israel’s refusal to cooperate with the inquiry, the Commission of Inquiry continues its work to identify perpetrators of international crimes committed in the region. The findings may have significant implications for future war crimes prosecutions, emphasizing the importance of accountability in conflict zones.
