US President Joe Biden’s restrictions on hi-tech trade with China were discussed in meetings between top commerce officials of both countries.
In a call with her Chinese counterpart, Wang Wentao, US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo defended the rules on national-security grounds as “not negotiable”, her department said.
Raimondo reiterated that US national security is paramount and highlighted concerns about regulatory transparency, non-market policies, and overcapacity in Chinese industrial sectors.
The Biden administration aims to address worries in the US regarding China’s military presence in the Indo-Pacific region and its dominance in industries like electric vehicles.
