Taoiseach Simon Harris announced in the Dáil that the cap for remediation options and grants for Mica homes will be increased, following a proposal by Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien. The increase in grant rates will require legislative amendments to be applied retroactively.
Additionally, concerns were raised about a report suggesting that Donegal County Council had altered the recommendations of engineers working on mica-affected homes. Independent TD Thomas Pringle highlighted over 20 cases where recommendations were changed to downgraded options.
Mr. Pringle urged for a definitive date for the revised standard to examine Mica affected homes. The Taoiseach assured that the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI) is reviewing the standard and will provide a report.
This development signifies a positive step towards addressing the issues faced by homeowners affected by Mica, ensuring transparency and accountability in the remediation process.
