Spain’s top diplomat, Jose Manuel Albares, rebuffed claims from Israel’s Foreign Ministry that Spain has become a haven for anti-Semitism. In an interview with RTVE, Albares emphasized Spain’s commitment to tolerance and freedom of expression, with strict laws against incitement to hatred, including anti-Semitism.
Albares urged anyone with concerns about anti-Semitic crimes to contact the authorities, highlighting Spain’s proactive stance against anti-Semitism. This response comes after Israel’s Foreign Ministry criticized Spain for allowing pro-Palestine demonstrations and accused the country of supporting terrorism.
Albares condemned Hamas’ terrorist attack in 2023 and subsequent Israeli actions that have resulted in civilian casualties in Gaza. Despite mediation efforts, the conflict persists, leading to a humanitarian crisis with thousands killed and injured.
