MEXICO CITY – Mexico’s first female president, Claudia Sheinbaum, wasted no time in addressing the pressing issue of gender violence in her country. In a bold move, she announced a series of reforms aimed at strengthening women’s rights, including a landmark proposal for equal pay for equal work.
With Mexico having some of the highest levels of gender violence in the world, Sheinbaum’s reforms are a crucial step towards achieving gender equality. Women currently earn only 65 pesos for every 100 pesos earned by men, a startling statistic that highlights the urgent need for change.
On her second day in office, Sheinbaum demonstrated her commitment to empowering women and creating a more just society. The proposed reforms signify a new era of progress and equality for women in Mexico, setting a precedent for future generations to come.
