Ukraine’s Ambassador to Czechia, Vasyl Zvarych, shared that over one-third of the 500,000 155 mm shells expected from the Czech initiative have been delivered. The initiative, backed by 18 countries, is set to fund an additional 300,000 rounds by 2024. Despite recent reports of malfunctioning artillery shells through the initiative, Zvarych remains optimistic and aims to expand the cooperation beyond 2025.
The Czech initiative, launched earlier this year due to shortages in U.S. aid, has been pivotal in supporting Ukrainian soldiers. Zvarych sees this as not only aiding the soldiers on the battlefield but also as a means to boost Ukraine’s domestic ammunition production.
Looking ahead, Czech Defense Minister Jana Cernochova plans to introduce a new initiative in 2025 to purchase artillery ammunition for Ukraine. This continued support signifies a long-lasting partnership between the two nations in the fight for Ukraine’s security. The collaboration not only provides essential equipment but also serves as a strategic investment in Ukraine’s defense infrastructure.
