Morocco’s Ambitious Energy Strategy: Aiming for Sustainable Development
Morocco is on track to produce 9,614 megawatts of electricity by 2027, with a focus on renewable energy sources, as outlined by Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Minister Leila Benali. The projected cost for this ambitious plan is 87.9 billion dirhams, highlighting the government’s commitment to sustainable energy production.
The plan includes a significant investment in solar and wind power, with 4,098 megawatts from solar energy and 2,668 megawatts from wind power. Morocco also aims to enhance its electrical interconnections with Spain and Portugal, increasing commercial capacity and fostering regional integration.
Benali emphasized the importance of increasing investments in the electricity transmission network and involving the private sector in energy projects. Additionally, measures are being implemented to modernize the oil sector and improve energy security through reserve creation and strategic planning.
With a focus on sustainable development and energy security, Morocco is paving the way for a greener and more efficient energy future.
