In a historic showcase of Palestinian solidarity, tens of thousands have flooded the streets, blocked universities, and boycotted companies in an attempt to force the Spanish government to cut all ties with Israel.
Students and activists in Barcelona took to the streets, blocked university access, and initiated a general strike to protest Spanish ties with Israel. Demonstrations across Spain on Friday, September 27, aimed to pressure the government to sever all connections with Israel. Protestors demanded an immediate end to the genocide of Palestinians and a complete halt to diplomatic, commercial, and military relations with Israel.
Various organizations backed the strike, ranging from workers’ syndicates to student unions and political parties. The protest comes at a time of heightened Israeli aggression, with hundreds of civilian casualties. Spanish solidarity with Palestine, while strong, is seen as not going far enough by activists.
The protests featured blockades outside supermarkets and defacing of companies perceived to support Israel. The culmination was a massive rally in major cities, signaling extensive public support for the Palestinian cause.
