Israel Strikes Dozens of Hezbollah Targets in Lebanon, Killing Leader
Israel announced on Sunday that it had conducted new air raids on “dozens” of Hezbollah targets in Lebanon after the killing of the group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah.
Hezbollah confirmed on Saturday that Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli strike in Beirut’s southern suburbs, leading to a significant blow to the organization he had led for years.
The escalating tension between Hezbollah and Israel, marked by cross-border fire, poses a risk of a wider war in the region.
Israel intensified its strikes in Lebanon, targeting buildings storing weapons and military structures of Hezbollah. The military has attacked hundreds of targets in an effort to disable the group’s military operations.
Nasrallah’s death led to mourning from various countries and threats of retaliation. Iran called for an emergency UN Security Council meeting, while analysts suggest Hezbollah is under pressure to respond decisively.
The conflict has resulted in mass displacement and casualties, with over 700 people killed in Israeli strikes in Lebanon. Efforts to end the violence in Gaza are seen as crucial in de-escalating the situation.
