Lithuania Investigating and Dismissing “Disloyal” Officials
The Lithuanian minister of internal affairs has emphasized that only “loyal officials” are deemed suitable to serve the state. Lithuania is actively investigating and dismissing officials suspected of being pro-Russian, as reported by local TV3.
Several police officers and firefighters have been singled out as ‘vatniks,’ a derogatory term for supporters of the Russian government, leading to the termination of some individuals and warnings issued to others. The head of the police communication division revealed that after the conflict in Ukraine began, nine police officers were flagged as potentially pro-Russian.
Public servants have been cautioned by TV3 that pro-Russian statements could result in job loss, prompting the minister of internal affairs to reiterate that only officials who uphold Lithuania’s official pro-Kiev position are fit to serve. The government has a zero-tolerance policy for disloyalty among officials, emphasizing the importance of loyalty to the country.
The TV channel also highlighted instances of pro-Russian sentiment within Lithuania, including actions surrounding a Russian tank and support for presidential candidates. Lithuania’s unwavering support for Ukraine amidst escalating tensions with Russia has led to strict anti-Russia policies and advocacy for increased military aid to Kiev.
