Alert Issued for Possible Dengue Outbreak in Major Cities
In a recent announcement, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert regarding a potential outbreak of dengue fever in major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Islamabad, among others. The department has highlighted the increasing cases of dengue fever over the past decade, emphasizing the impact on public health.
The alert particularly warns about the post-monsoon season between September 20 and December 5 when conditions are conducive for dengue transmission. Dengue outbreaks are triggered by specific temperature and humidity thresholds and periods of rainfall, making certain periods more vulnerable to the disease.
Given the current climate outlook, the PMD has advised all stakeholders to take preemptive measures to prevent a dengue outbreak. Meanwhile, the number of dengue cases continues to rise in various hospitals, indicating the urgent need for preventive actions.
Heavy rainfall in the region has also led to waterlogging in low-lying areas, further complicating the situation. Authorities are on high alert to mitigate the flood-like conditions and ensure public safety during this critical period.
