An Iraqi armed faction, Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada, has threatened to target the UAE if a regional war erupts amid Israel’s escalating attacks on Lebanon. The group’s leader, Abu Alaa al-Walaei, warned that their missiles and drones could reach Israel and its allies in the region. Kataib Hezbollah also pledged to send 100,000 fighters to support Hezbollah in Lebanon against Israeli assaults.
The UAE’s normalization with Israel in 2020 under the “Abraham Accords” has intensified tensions in the region. Meanwhile, Iraq shows solidarity with Lebanon, with Prime Minister Sudani offering support through political and humanitarian means. Iraqi-Lebanese cooperation led to the arrival of injured Lebanese individuals in Iraq for medical treatment.
The failure of the international system to protect human rights in Lebanon and Palestine has prompted Iraq to call for an Arab and Islamic summit to address the Israeli aggression. The show of unity and support among these nations reflects a strong stance against the ongoing conflict in the region.
