The Enugu State Government is cracking down on the activities of Oriokpa Masquerade groups after two people died due to their excessive behavior in Nsukka. Commissioner Okey Ogbodo has promised to hold perpetrators accountable to ensure public safety.
The government has summoned traditional rulers and community leaders from affected areas to address the issue. The communities impacted include Nguru, Isiakpu, Echara, Nru, Edem-Ezema, Iheagu, Ihe, Owere, and Umuoyo, where chaos and fatalities have occurred.
Governor Peter Mbah has directed the police to investigate and bring those responsible to justice. The government warns against further excesses, emphasizing the protection of citizens’ rights and security.
The government has invited community leaders to a meeting to discuss the incidents and enforce accountability. They express sympathy to the families of the deceased and vow to punish any individuals or groups responsible for causing harm.
The Enugu State Government is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, and any future transgressions by the masquerade groups will be met with appropriate sanctions.
