The race for Japan’s ruling party presidency is heading to a runoff between economic security minister Sanae Takaichi and former Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba, as none of the nine candidates secured a majority in the initial round of voting. The winner of the Liberal Democratic Party election will succeed Fumio Kishida as party chief and prime minister.
