Petrobras is set to revitalize a well in the Roncador field, Campos Basin, aiming to produce 1.7 million cubic meters of natural gas daily by 2025. President Magda Chambriard announced this move as part of the company’s effort to enhance gas supply and boost oil production by increasing natural gas reinjection volumes in offshore wells.
Highlighting the significance of the Roncador field, Chambriard mentioned that the single closed well could become Brazil’s twelfth-largest gas producer, representing over 1% of the country’s total gas production. Petrobras plans to initiate operations at the well next year and explore additional gas wells in the future.
In response to inquiries about potential gas price subsidies, Chambriard dismissed the idea, citing gas as a commodity subject to specific parameters and regional influences.
Petrobras’ Gas Supply Enhancement Strategy
Petrobras’ endeavor to expand gas supply is expected to help lower gas prices by increasing market competitiveness. Chambriard stressed the correlation between supply and demand in gas pricing, noting that a surplus of gas could result in decreased prices.
With the Brazilian government’s “Gas for Employment” program and projected growth in natural gas demand, Petrobras is gearing up to meet the evolving market needs, subsequently advancing the country’s integrated gas network.
