Calling for a Coordinated Wholesale Centre: Pharmacists Urge Governor Sanwo-Olu for Action
Pharmacists in Lagos are rallying for the approval of the Consultant Pharmacists Cadre, appealing to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for swift action on this long-overdue advancement. Under the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), these pharmacists believe that implementing the Consultant Pharmacists Cadre will greatly enhance pharmaceutical services in the state.
During a press conference to mark the 2024 World Pharmacists Day, themed “Pharmacists: Meeting Global Health Needs,” the critical role of consultant pharmacists in clinical settings was highlighted. These experts play a key role in improving patient care and healthcare outcomes.
Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of PSN, Babayemi Oyekunle, emphasized the urgency of approving the Consultant Pharmacists Cadre, noting its importance in recognizing pharmacists’ expertise and improving healthcare delivery. He urged Governor Sanwo-Olu to establish a Coordinated Wholesale Centre (CWC) to combat drug abuse and the sale of counterfeit medications in Lagos.
This call for action reflects the pharmacists’ commitment to enhancing patient care and public health, highlighting the vital role of pharmacists in building healthier communities globally. With the implementation of the Consultant Pharmacists Cadre and the establishment of a CWC, Lagos can adopt global best practices in pharmaceutical care.
