During the recent Summit of the Future at the UN, Morocco’s Head of Government, Mr. Akhannouch, emphasized the importance of collective action and inclusivity in addressing global challenges. He reiterated King Mohammed VI’s call for reforming the multilateral system to adapt to changing circumstances.
Highlighting the need for Africa to be a priority in UN actions, Mr. Akhannouch discussed Morocco’s ambitious goals in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing investments in renewable energies. The country aims to achieve a 45.5% reduction in emissions by 2030 and raise the share of clean energies in the electricity mix to 52%.
Furthermore, Mr. Akhannouch pointed out Morocco’s progress in social protection and food and health sovereignty. The Summit also saw the adoption of a Pact for the Future, committing to reducing the digital divide and accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Summit, part of the UN General Assembly’s 79th session, brought together leaders from around the world to discuss key issues and renew their commitment to the UN Charter.
