The New York City media landscape in the 1980s was filled with larger-than-life celebrities competing for attention in the tabloids. From Mayor Ed Koch to Leona Helmsley, Andy Warhol, and John Gotti, one figure stood out the most – the brash real estate developer Donald J. Trump.
As a cartoonist, I began drawing Trump in 1986 during his rise to fame, showcasing his wild real estate ventures and scandalous personal life. Despite his bankruptcies and divorces, Trump’s relentless pursuit of headlines never wavered.
In 2016, Trump’s unexpected presidential candidacy shocked the nation, prompting me to resume drawing cartoons of him. With the guidance of a friend, I compiled 90 cartoons into a book titled “President Chaos: Cartoons from Trump’s Four Years of Lies, Insults, and Madness.”
This book serves as a historical reflection on the challenges to democracy posed by authoritarian leaders like Trump. It is now available on Amazon, shedding light on the tumultuous Trump era and its impact on American politics.
