In a tragic turn of events, Hezbollah confirmed that one of its top commanders, Ahmed Wahbi, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut. Alongside Wahbi, Ibrahim Aqil, head of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan unit, and a dozen other officers lost their lives. The IDF claimed that Wahbi orchestrated various attacks on Israeli territory and was responsible for training Hezbollah’s special forces unit.
The airstrike also resulted in the deaths of 37 individuals, including women and children. Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported more than 60 injuries. Following the attack, Hezbollah retaliated by firing hundreds of rockets into Israel and the Golan Heights. In response, Israeli fighter jets targeted approximately 180 Hezbollah sites in southern Lebanon.
The recent escalation in violence has raised concerns about a potential regional conflict. Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency has been accused of triggering the unrest by detonating pagers used by Hezbollah. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced a strategic shift towards Lebanon, signaling a possible escalation in the conflict.
Despite the tense situation, Hezbollah’s leader has warned of severe consequences for Israel, emphasizing the group’s readiness to retaliate. The unfolding events have set the stage for a precarious and uncertain future in the region.
