United Nations Secretary General expresses concern over ongoing conflict in Gaza
The Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has raised alarm over the continued violence in Gaza, stating that it is “clear” that neither side is interested in a ceasefire. He described the situation as a tragic war that must come to an end.
Civil defence rescuers in Gaza City reported a deadly Israeli strike on a school-turned-shelter, resulting in the loss of at least seven lives. The Israeli military claimed to be targeting Hamas militants operating from the school grounds.
Despite international outcry, there have been several instances of Israeli strikes on school buildings used as shelters for displaced Gazans. The conflict, which began nearly a year ago, has resulted in a high number of casualties, with a majority being civilians.
The UN has confirmed these figures as accurate, highlighting the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in order to prevent further loss of life.
