The Allahabad High Court has denied bail to former Uttar Pradesh minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, who is serving a life sentence for gang rape. Justices Vivek Chaudhary and Mohd FA Khan of the Lucknow bench of the court made this decision after completing the hearing on September 10. Prajapati, a former mining minister under the Samajwadi Party government, was arrested in March 2017 for gang-raping a woman and attempting to rape her minor daughter. The case was filed against him and six others based on a complaint by the victim. In November 2021, Prajapati and two others were sentenced to life imprisonment, while the remaining accused were acquitted due to insufficient evidence. Prajapati had appealed for bail while his appeal against the conviction is pending. The Supreme Court had ordered the case to be filed against him and others in February 2017. The denial of bail by the High Court reaffirms the seriousness of the charges against Prajapati.
