Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, emphasizes the government’s focus on the country’s thriving ICT industry, particularly in data centers. Egypt’s comparative advantage in this field was underscored during a meeting discussing a proposal for a green data center by a global consortium. The meeting, attended by ministers of ICT and housing, highlighted Egypt’s potential for renewable energy, a critical factor for such projects.
Noting Egypt’s strategic geographic location at the crossroads of communication cables from Africa, Asia, and Europe, participants identified the country as an attractive destination for investments in data centers. The government’s support for service exports, projected to reach $9 billion by 2026, further enhances this appeal.
The consortium outlined the project’s objectives, including the export of data storage and processing services. They also shared plans for project sites and design, emphasizing the incorporation of cutting-edge technologies, such as AI services.
