The US Department of Defense (DoD) may have misused appropriated funds by training a Ukrainian military unit that may have engaged in gross human rights violations, according to a new oversight report published by the department’s Office of the Inspector General on Wednesday.
The report highlighted that the training of Ukrainian forces was a potential violation of the Leahy Law, which prohibits military aid to foreign forces with human rights violations. The Pentagon also faced challenges in equipment accountability, fund management, and security protocols during aid transfers to Ukraine.
