China’s agriculture minister, Tang Renjian, is currently under investigation by the country’s top anti-graft watchdog, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. The investigation is based on suspected serious violations of Communist Party discipline and the law.
Tang’s career in agriculture began in the 1980s, and he was appointed as the agriculture minister in December 2020. Under his leadership, China has focused on food security, including the implementation of the Seed Law to safeguard germplasm resources and strengthen IP rights in the seed industry.
Tang has been actively involved in promoting crop production and rural policies, with an emphasis on increasing self-sufficiency in key crops and utilizing new agricultural technologies.
