The Abia State Government reaffirms the September 23, 2024, resumption date for the 2024/2025 academic session, warning schools that resume earlier will face sanctions. Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, issued this warning after the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti.
Kanu expressed disappointment over schools that defied the directive and resumed early. He emphasized the need for a strong regulatory environment in the education sector and mentioned possible sanctions for principals who reopened schools prematurely.
The government is also focused on recovering schools from private individuals and organizations, urging communities to protect government properties. Kanu stressed the importance of safeguarding infrastructure investments for the benefit of the citizens.
