Uruguayan Air Force C-130 Returns from Firefighting Mission in Paraguay
A Uruguayan Air Force (FAU) Hercules C-130 aircraft has returned to Montevideo after a successful firefighting mission in Paraguay. The crew participated in dropping firefighting boxes in the northern Paraguayan Chaco region where a large area was affected by wildfires.
Mission Chief Williams Veistaras led the team in carrying out a night operation for the first time, launching US-developed Guardian boxes filled with 1,000 liters of water each to combat the fires. The crew faced challenges from dense vegetation and poor visibility due to smoke but managed to drop 30,000 liters of water in three flights.
The Paraguayan Air Force expressed gratitude for the Uruguayan assistance during the emergency, highlighting the FAU’s valuable contribution in fighting the fires across several departments in Paraguay. The mission was part of the System of Cooperation between the American Air Forces (SICOFAA).
