By Ozioruva Aliu
As Nigeria prepares for the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth and Chairman of The Patriots, emphasizes the need for free and fair polls. Anyaoku underscores the importance of credibility in these elections, asserting that the international community is closely monitoring Nigeria’s democratic process.
With the Edo gubernatorial election set for September 21 and Ondo for November 16, Anyaoku urges the Federal Government, INEC, security agencies, and other relevant institutions to ensure transparency and impartiality. He highlights that Nigeria’s conduct during these elections will shape its reputation on the global stage.
Meanwhile, the Edo State government raises concerns about alleged plots to withdraw Governor Godwin Obaseki’s security details and manipulate the electoral process in favor of the opposition party. Despite these claims, the police deny any intention to withdraw the governor’s security aides, ensuring that security measures remain in place.
As tensions rise and accusations fly, the world watches as Nigeria navigates its electoral process, emphasizing the need for integrity and accountability in governance.
