Exciting news for nurses and midwives in Nigeria as the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria reopens its verification portal on their website. Nurses and midwives can now submit verification requests online, with expiration dates calculated based on the application date.
In a recent update, the portal reads, “Good news, verification requests are back online”. This development comes after a sudden deactivation of the portal in February, causing turmoil for Nigerian nurses working abroad.
Anthony Ijeoma from Nursingworld Nigeria confirmed the portal’s reopening, commending the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives for their efforts. Many nurses abroad faced legal consequences without the necessary verification, leading to forced return to the country.
The guidelines for certificate verification issued by the council sparked protests and petitions from various state councils. The House of Representatives also intervened, asking the council to reconsider the guidelines.
NANNM has appealed to the Federal Government for urgent action on key issues, including reopening the verification portal and addressing salary concerns. Stay tuned for more updates on this ongoing issue.
