In a recent incident in Bengaluru, Hindutva activist Puneeth Kerehalli and 20 others were booked by the police for attempting to hold an unauthorized protest at Town Hall. The protest was called for by the Bengaluru Ganesha Utsava Committee to condemn the Nagamangala riots that occurred during a Ganesha idol immersion. The committee demanded a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the riots, but failed to seek police permission or conduct the protest at the designated venue, Freedom Park.
Kerehalli, known for his involvement in multiple criminal cases, along with 40 others, gathered outside Town Hall and raised slogans against the state government, causing public nuisance. The police detained the protesters and later released them with a warning. However, more than 20 protesters who engaged in aggressive behavior were booked under various sections for causing public nuisance and unlawful assembly.
