In a recent meeting at the American University Kyiv, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine William B. Taylor expressed his belief that Democratic candidate and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris would be more assertive in supporting Ukraine compared to President Joe Biden if she were to win the November election. Taylor emphasized Harris’ strong stance on backing Ukraine and predicted that she would continue to do so until Ukraine prevails.
Following the first debate between Harris and Donald Trump on Sept. 10, where Trump hesitated to express support for Ukraine, Harris accused him of abandoning the country. Taylor acknowledged Biden’s efforts in maintaining coalitions but noted his somewhat slow decision-making process in certain issues concerning Ukraine.
Taylor highlighted Harris’ tendency to be more aggressive than Biden in handling certain matters and suggested that she may bring a new team to the White House if elected. Harris, the presumptive Democratic nominee after Biden’s withdrawal in July, is poised to challenge Trump in the upcoming general election. With the possibility of becoming the first female U.S. president, Harris aims to lead with a firm stance on supporting Ukraine.
