A nursery owner in Habra, West Bengal, has cultivated 140 varieties of foreign mangoes, attracting many visitors to witness the exotic fruit. Mofizul Rahman, the owner, boasts of unique mango tastes not commonly found in the region, with trees sprouting buds and ripening colorful mangoes. The nursery houses tropical mango species from China, Japan, Thailand, Israel, and the US, yielding three to four times a year despite the differing climate.
While traditionally grown mangoes like Himsagar and Golap Khas fruit once every two years, foreign varieties show higher productivity, with 65 types already ripened. Rahman aims to expand the orchard with government support. The mangoes are described as sweet, juicy, and thin-skinned, with varied colors and tastes. Local authorities express interest in promoting this venture to inspire other farmers in the area.
Visitors can experience the unique flavors of foreign mangoes at Rahman’s nursery and even plant seedlings at home to enjoy the exotic fruit’s taste and benefits.
