The Significance of Iranian President’s Visit to Iraq
In a recent interview with Al Mayadeen, Iranian political adviser Velayati emphasized the importance of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s first foreign trip to Iraq for strengthening strategic relations between the two neighboring countries.
Velayati highlighted the impact of this visit on the future of Iran-Iraq relations, as well as on regional peace and stability. He also dismissed Western attempts to create rifts between Tehran and Baghdad, emphasizing the unity between the two nations.
He further stated, “Iran and Iraq are the main pillars of the resistance front against Israel and the arrogant forces, standing united against the US.” Velayati expressed confidence that the Iraqi people will eventually expel the US forces from their country, following Iran’s example.
President Pezeshkian’s visit to Iraq includes meetings with senior officials and the signing of agreements, including one on security cooperation, signaling a deepening of ties between the two nations.
