Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Ersin Tatar is urging the UK to reconsider the unequal treatment of Turkish Cypriots. He highlighted the lack of direct flights from the UK to TRNC as one of the injustices that need to be addressed. Tatar emphasized that easing the isolation of Turkish Cypriots would contribute to peace and called for a review of their unequal treatment.
Advocating for a two-state solution for Cyprus, Tatar emphasized the benefits of cooperation in areas like energy, water, and natural resources for both Turkish and Greek Cypriots. He reminded the UK government of its responsibilities as a guarantor power of Cyprus and demanded an end to the ongoing injustice towards Turkish Cypriots.
The island of Cyprus has a long history of dispute between Greek and Turkish Cypriots, leading to the establishment of the TRNC in 1983. Despite diplomatic efforts, the conflict persists. Tatar reiterated Türkiye’s support for a two-state solution based on equal international status for both communities.
