The town of Moriki in Zamfara State is gripped with fear as a notorious bandit kingpin, Bello Turji, demands a N30m levy from the community. The deadline has passed, and with no funds raised, residents are in danger of facing his wrath. Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, has vowed to capture the bandit soon. Turji imposed the levy in retaliation for the killing of his cows by the military.
Some residents have fled the town, fearing an imminent attack. Despite economic hardship, the community struggles to meet Turji’s demands. The military is working to end the menace of bandits extorting money from citizens. Operations in the North-West have been harmonized under Operation Kasar Yamma to address security challenges.
Musa urged citizens to stop supporting bandits, as informants within communities aid their activities. The military is determined to protect citizens and eliminate the threat posed by bandits in Zamfara State.
