Delegation of Council of Europe Visits Armenia to Discuss Human Rights and Rule of Law
A delegation from the Council of Europe Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law recently visited Armenia to discuss the implementation of judgments and decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). Led by Clare Ovey, the delegation met with various governmental bodies and stakeholders to address issues related to human rights and rule of law in the country.
Meetings were held with members of an interdepartmental commission overseeing ECHR judgments, as well as representatives from the executive government, General Prosecution, Investigative Committee, Human Rights Defender, and judiciary. Discussions focused on systemic reforms in the criminal justice system, human rights in the military, and other areas such as police and corrections.
The delegation commended Armenia for its ongoing efforts in implementing reforms and agreed to provide regular updates to the CoE Committee of Ministers. Cooperation will continue to address violations identified in ECHR judgments and improve the protection of human rights in Armenia.
