A new global survey conducted by Ipsos UK and commissioned by Earth4All and the Global Commons Alliance (GCA) reveals that nearly four out of five Indians support criminalizing actions causing serious damage to nature and the climate by government officials or business leaders.
According to the survey, 61% of Indians believe that the government is taking adequate measures to address climate change and environmental damage, while 90% are concerned about the current state of nature.
Seventy-three percent of respondents feel that the Earth is nearing critical environmental “tipping points,” and 57% believe that new technologies can help resolve environmental issues without major lifestyle changes.
The survey, which included responses from 18 G20 countries and 4 non-G20 countries, also highlighted the close connection between human health and nature, with 77% of Indians stating that nature is already too damaged to meet long-term human needs. Recent legislative changes in countries like Belgium, Chile, and France recognizing ecocide as a federal crime reflect a growing global concern for environmental protection.
