Writer-activist Taslima Nasreen expressed concern that Bangladesh could follow the path of Afghanistan due to the influence of Islamic radicals indoctrinating youths to be anti-India, anti-Hindu, and pro-Pakistan. Initially supporting the students’ movement against an autocratic government, Nasreen pointed out recent violent actions against Hindus, journalists, and the release of terrorists, indicating a more sinister agenda at play. She blamed Sheikh Hasina for encouraging fundamentalists and curtailing freedom of expression, ultimately leading to the current dire situation in Bangladesh.
Nasreen highlighted the destruction of statues, attacks on Hindus, and persecution of journalists, revealing the true motives of the movement. She warned of Bangladesh becoming another Afghanistan or Iran under the guidance of Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, who she accused of turning a blind eye to violence against Hindus despite calling for a halt.
Living in India since 2005, Nasreen criticized Hasina for promoting Islamic radicalism and fostering anti-India sentiments in Bangladesh. Despite her exile and inability to return due to the current regime, Nasreen feels at home in India and hopes for renewed possibilities in the future.
