President Yoon Seok-youl recently visited a regional emergency medical center in Gyeonggi Province to express empathy for the unfair compensation of emergency room medical staff. Amid ongoing disputes in the medical sector leading to concerns of medical shortages, President Yoon’s visit aimed to address public anxiety directly.
During his visit, President Yoon toured the emergency medical scene and listened to the opinions of medical staff. This marked his ninth visit to a medical facility since announcing a medical school expansion plan in February. President Yoon’s visit comes in response to criticism from the opposition regarding his lack of understanding of the medical field.
President Yoon acknowledged the challenges faced by emergency room staff due to high work intensity and inadequate compensation policies. He pledged to enhance support for essential medical personnel and address issues related to legal risks and fair compensation.
Accompanied by key officials, President Yoon’s visit prioritized minimizing disruption to patients and medical staff. Further visits to medical facilities are under consideration before the Chuseok holiday.
