The Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission has announced that 12 political parties will be participating in the upcoming Local Government election on October 5. Chairman Aniedi Ikoiwak confirmed that these parties have submitted their candidates’ names and returned their nomination forms, setting the stage for a competitive election.
Speaking in Uyo, Ikoiwak highlighted the smooth relationships with political parties and the deployment of 14,000 security personnel across polling units and wards in all 31 local government areas. This preparation was facilitated by the Consultative Committee Meeting on Election Security, which includes the Commissioner of Police.
Additionally, the commission has received over 17,000 applications for ad-hoc staff positions but will only engage 12,000 to 13,000 after screening. The level of organization and commitment displayed by the electoral body indicates a readiness to conduct a fair and transparent election.
